Aroma of Hope Coffee is working in partnership with Revealing Hope Ministries to help support and rebuild the lives of children in Colombia. We love our coffee and we hope you do too, but there are things more important in life. Just think, the profits from one bag of coffee you purchase can supply one meal a day to a child living in poverty for an entire week.
Listed are current projects and funding needs for the future.
Barcelona, Colombia
Building Project
We have been partnering with a local church in Quindío, Colombia that operates a home; caring for and fostering abandon girls. This home currently accommodates 30 children. The original plan was to fund the construction of a new house for 12 – 15 additional girls. The current plan has changed to expand the capacity of the existing two homes by adding additions, which would allow the same amount of space for the addition girls, but at half the cost of building a new house. One house was completed this summer, but due to unforeseen construction costs in relocating the laundry facility and the increased price of steel, we still need an additional $5500 to complete the second house.
Puerto Caldas, Colombia
Building Projects
This is a completed building project located in Puerto Caldas, led by Juan Manuel Lopez one of our Directors and ministry partners. This will be the new home to a widow whose two sons’ were murdered and recently lost her husband as well. Her daughter will stay with her to help raise the two small grandchildren that were left behind, one of which is sick with leukemia.
A second project we’re presently looking into is the purchase and remodeling of a house next door to the Seeds of Affection Foundation. This project will house a feeding program for the community, education assistance for teenage prostitutes and an ESL (English as a Second Language) program. The approximate cost of the project is $10,000.
Feeding Program
We are praying about a long- term partnership with the Seeds of Affection Foundation to help increase the capacity of a feeding program for children living in poverty. The approximate cost to increase the capacity of the program is $250 per month
Bogota, Colombia
General Assistance - Clothing
Revealing Hope Ministries has come alongside Fundación Amor y Compasión to provide shoes and clothing for needy children that live in one of the most highly concentrated areas of internally displaced people (IDP's) in the world. The poverty stricken area of Ciudad Bolivar has a density of over 42,000 habitants per squared kilometer, over twice as high as Tokyo and over 4 times as high as New York City. Initially designed to be a seasonal project for mission teams, we’re praying that God would expand our capacity to do more in the city of Bogota.
Education
We have also been considering how we might be able to start an ESL program for children in the neighborhood or other areas of the city. We have the teachers, but we need a sponsor for the program to cover the expenses. The approximate cost is $6000 per school year to operate the program.
